Position Overview:
The job of "Para-Professional" is done for the purpose of facilitating student success in academic and interpersonal skills through independently implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/ activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing direct feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, representing the district as needed in meetings, etc.
The School Readiness Specialist coordinates education activities and provides direct instructional support to our youngest migrant education students (3-5-year-olds) supporting school readiness and ensuring families are knowledgeable about available early childhood services. This position will support the goals of the HRCSD Migrant Education Program and the HRCSD Strategic Plan.
This position will be based out of the Migrant Education Program office located at Westside Elementary School, and will travel to various district locations during the work day, as needed.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide instruction and social skill practice for each preschool student in the Migrant Education program.
- Provides support for families through family education meetings and home visits when needed.
- Develops individualized at-home instruction for students not attending a Preschool Site.
- Completes monthly service logs to record services provided. Maintains accurate records of all preschool students' progress.
- Works on ensuring migrant student transition to kindergarten is successful.
- Collaborates with school personnel, parents, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving preschool student outcomes in the school.
- Participates in various meetings (e.g. in-service training, site meetings, district, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information to improve services for migrant preschool students/
- Acts as a home/school consultant with parents.
- Plan supplemental activities (e.g clubs, fairs, family events) to support preschoolers' socio-emotional well-being.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance to meet the needs of the students and the expectations of the district.
- Collaborate with the migrant education department team to ensure high-quality services for our migrant students.
- A flexible schedule will be needed for after-school and evening events that promote graduation and post-secondary options.
- Complete local and state reports as required by Title 1C Migrant Program
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to work with student and families with varying educational, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills are required.
- Ability to integrate equitable practices district-wide for the purpose of promoting equity in family engagement.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Self-directed with strong organizational skills.
- Valid driver's license and either reliable personal transportation or have the ability to use a district vehicle
- Initiative for identifying resources within our community for our parents and families.
- Ability to collaborate with staff and community organizations to promote enriching opportunities for students.
- Ability to maintain updated student records and files and ensure confidentiality of all records.
- Ability to provide appropriate and timely information and data when working in a collaborative team.
Education Required: Possess the equivalent of 72 quarter credits of college coursework (equivalent to an Associate degree), or have passed the CBEST (California Basic Education Skills Test) or PRAXIS Paraprofessional Assessment. Bachelors degree preferred. Will need to submit official college transcripts or test results, if hired.
Testing Requirements: Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of:
- Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. In addition to the hourly rate of pay listed below, the successful candidate will also earn an additional 5% hourly increase in pay once they pass the district's English/Spanish bilingual test.
