Job Purpose Statement:
The job of "Speech/Language Pathologist" is done for the purpose of mitigating the effects of language skill deficits for students so that they may access and benefit from a free, appropriate public education by providing diagnostic, consultative, and/or direct instructional services for eligible speech/language handicapped students in assigned buildings.
We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual to join our team as a part-time Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Assistive Technology Specialist. This unique role will be split between providing speech-language therapy services at our high school, private schools and alternative education program, and supporting HRCSD assistive technology needs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both areas and demonstrate a commitment to enhancing communication and accessibility. Bilingual candidates are highly encouraged to apply.
Essential Job Functions:
Speech-Language Pathologist (50%):
- Assessment & Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments of speech, language, and communication skills to identify disorders and develop treatment plans.
- Therapeutic Intervention: Provide individual and group therapy sessions to address speech and language disorders, including articulation, fluency, voice, and language disorders.
- Progress Monitoring: Track and document progress towards therapy goals, adjusting treatment plans as needed.
- Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other professionals to support the communication needs of students or clients.
- Training and Professional Development Support: Works with regional and district staff to ensure district staff is effectively and efficiently using AT/AAC devices using current best practices.
- Education: Offer guidance and strategies to support communication development in home and educational settings.
- IEP Participation: Actively contribute to the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with speech and language needs. Provide input on goals, accommodations, and services.
- Supervision: Oversee the work of Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA), providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations. Ensure that their activities align with treatment goals and best practices.
Assistive Technology Specialist (50%):
- Assessment & Recommendation: Evaluate individual needs for assistive technology (AT) devices and services, making recommendations for tools that enhance communication, learning, or daily living.
- Implementation & Training: Assist with the selection, installation, and customization of AT devices. Provide training to users, families, and educators on effective use.Works with regional and district staff to ensure district staff is effectively and efficiently using AT/AAC devices using current best practices.
- Support & Troubleshooting: Offer ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for AT devices, ensuring they function properly and meet user needs.
- Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of AT assessments, device usage, and outcomes. Prepare reports and recommendations for stakeholders.
- Professional Development: Stay current with emerging assistive technologies and best practices to ensure the most effective support for clients. Participate in district and regional AT/AAC groups (SETT - Student, Environment, Tasks, and Tools, PLC, training, etc).
- Management of Devices: With the help of the SLPA, keeps AT/AAC equipment organized and troubleshoots any issues with devices and their implementation.
- IEP Participation: Collaborate with the IEP team to integrate assistive technology recommendations into the students' IEPs. Provide expertise on how AT can support the achievement of IEP goals and objectives. Attend meetings as scheduled, and when not attending provide information to case manager, student and family as appropriate for the development of annual IEP.
- Supervision: Oversee the work of Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) to support students using AT/AAC devices, providing guidance, support, and performance evaluations. Ensure that their activities align with treatment goals and best practices.
Other Job Functions:
- Effectively communicates over the phone, in writing, and in person with other staff, parents, and students using tact, courtesy and good judgment while applying knowledge of departmental regulations.
- Respects and maintains confidential information in all situations
- Accurately manages and maintains files, records, correspondence, reports
- Reports incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) for the purpose of maintining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
- Has the ability to move or lift materials or equipment on occasion
- Fulfills other related duties as assigned.
Essential Job Requirements:
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Skills to communicate effectively and problem solve. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Knowledge of curriculum, education code, district policies, problem solving methodology. Knowledge of inclusionary practices, Universal Design for Learning, trauma-informed practices, and cultural competency preferred. Knowledge of RTIi and PBIS. Sound equitable practice, effective communicator, ability to manage Medicaid billing, paperwork, and service delivery. Knowledge of AT/AAC, experience working with complex need students, excellent communication skills both written and verbal, experience writing and implementing quality IEP's
- Abilities to sit for prolonged periods, maintain and verify completeness of records, meet schedules and deadlines, communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds, communicate in oral and written form. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing conversations, near visual acuity/visual accommodation.
Licenses, Certifications, Testing Required:
- Possession of a valid Oregon Teaching License with speech/pathology, hearing impaired or communications disorder endorsement or ability to meet Oregon licensing requirements or hold or be able to qualify for a valid Speech-Language Pathology License issued by the State of Oregon Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology and hold a current Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech and Language Pathology from the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA).
- May require a valid driver's license and reliable personal mode of transportation to travel to and between district work sites.
