Due to the fact that our school district is facing budget reductions and is not anticipating any summer learning funding from the state, we are not in a position to provide a bonus for employees who support summer school this year. Our goal is to serve as many students as possible given the limited funding that we have, which will be fewer students than we have been able to provide for over the last several years.

Background: 

K-8 Summer School and ESY will be held at Mid Valley Elementary; 9-12 Summer School and ESY be be held at Hood River Valley High School.  Summer School 2024 will run in the month of July, specific dates still to be decided.  The number and type of positions is dependent on state funding and student enrollment.  

 

We need to hire qualified Instructional Assistants and Paraprofessionals to work in the 2024 Summer School and ESY programs.  Assigned hours will range between 4 and 6.5 hours/day.

   

Instructional Assistants will be placed with a classroom teacher to provide academic and enrichment supports to students as outlined in the Instructional Assistant job description on the District website. Instructional assistants will also be assigned to cafeteria, playground and other student supervision duties, as needed.  Paraprofessionals will provide intervention services for students who need targeted services, under the direction of the classroom teacher.  

 

The number and type of positions is dependent on state funding and student enrollment.  

 

Qualifications: 

The minimum qualification for Instructional Assistants is possession of an Associates Degree from an accredited college or university, or the equivalent of 72 quarter credits of college coursework, or a passing score on the CBEST or the Pearson/NES Para Professional Assessment.   If you are a current district employee and are not an Instructional Assistant or Paraprofessional, you will need to order official college transcripts to be sent to the District Human Resources Office.  The hourly rate of pay will be based on the 2024/25 Classified Salary Schedule for Instructional Assistants and Paraprofessionals. 

 

Bilingual English/Spanish skills are highly desired; preference will be given to Instructional Assistants and Paraprofessionals who are bilingual.
