Open until filled.   This is a 6 hour/day position that will begin immediately.  Note:  We may fill other Secretary I positions (both full and part time, Temporary and Regular) from this pool of applications.   Initial screening will begin on October 30, 2024.

Job Purpose Statement:

The Secretary I position is done for the purpose of providing receptionist duties and clerical support to assigned personnel; communicating information to staff, the public, and other districts in both English and Spanish (preferred); and providing information and direction as may be requested

 

Essential Job Functions:

Employees in this position perform some or all of the following essential duties and tasks: 

  • Answers telecommunication system for the purpose of screening calls, transferring calls, responding to inquiries and/or taking messages in both English and Spanish (preferred). 
  • Maintains schedules (e.g. meetings, room schedules, bus schedules) for the purpose of coordinating available space and/or activities. 
  • Maintains regular and appropriate attendance and is on time for assignments for the purpose of meeting the needs of the students and the district. 
  • Processes documents and materials (e.g. schedules, agendas, mail, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties. 
  • Responds to inquiries of staff, the public, parents and/or students for the purpose of providing information and direction as may be required.
  • Composes documents for the purpose of communicating to staff, parents and community. 
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Prepares time sheets for the purpose of submission to administration for approval.
  • Evaluates situations (i.e. involving other staff, students, parents, the public) for the purpose of taking appropriate action and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution (i.e., securing substitutes).

  • Confer regularly with lead worker and immediate supervisor.
  • Follow all district policies, work procedures and reasonable requests by proper authority.
  • Maintain the integrity of confidential information relating to a student, family, colleague or district patron.
  • Develop job skills necessary to meet changes in the position.
  • Meet applicable district physical ability, health and safety guidelines for the position. 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Skills to operate standard office equipment including telecommunication equipment and basic computer applications, google suite.
  • Ability to work well independently as well as a member of a team.
  • Experience with data entry and database information management.
  • Use English and Spanish (preferred) in both written and verbal form, use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. 
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations related to assigned functions, recordkeeping, standard office equipment. 
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred. 

Required testing:

Any offer of employment made by Hood River County School District to an external candidate is contingent upon satisfactory results of: 

  • Drug screening tests for any illegal drug or substance classified in Schedules I through V under the Federal Controlled Substances Act, 21 U.S.C. 811 to 812. This includes, but is not limited to, marijuana, mind-altering substances or narcotic drugs such as hallucinogens, amphetamines, barbiturates, or any other illegal drug or controlled substance, except those federally recognized as legally prescribed by a physician and used as directed.

The salary range listed below is for the 2024/25 school year.   Employees who pass the district's English/Spanish bilingual test will earn an additional 5% per hour.
